An Open Letter: Capitalism is dead.
Thank you for supporting Fold and Fray over the past five years. You may have been here since the beginning, or you may have joined more recently. Regardless, I appreciate receiving your support over this period. I am grateful that there has been an exchange of energy and value while creating positive impact. This creates a deeper connection to the earth and reminds us of our interconnection.
For some time, I have felt conflicted about participating in systems rooted in capitalist ideology that claim to offer some “benefit” in exchange for conformity. And yet, participation within particular systems has sometimes seemed necessary. However, I have always struggled with the notion that we are to exchange our time and life-force in accordance with someone else’s will and agenda, especially when that agenda is not aligned with our own constitution or held with integrity.
If you naturally exist outside of the paradigm of what a system is prescribing, such systems may always feel limiting. Perhaps, it is this conformity to that which is unaligned that prevents brighter, more creative futures from emerging. This seems logical, since by giving and focusing your attention, that attention is not placed elsewhere. New potentialities cannot come to be if we are gripping to something outdated.
Capitalism, in how we currently think of it, is in its fall. The old structures are on their way out, and the illusion is crumbling. As such, we can divest from these systems while also building what is to come.
Fold and Fray was originally designed to help mitigate challenges present within the fashion industry in 2018. However, we are no longer in 2018. And while these challenges remain ever present, what was designed as a solution to a 2018 moment, is no longer what’s needed for 2025.
We have to allow our old structures to be composted and rebirthed. Even those within our own life that we have created and are of our own making. Capitalism is dead. It is time to create new structures that exist outside of the paradigm carried forward from past agendas.
